2006 Australian Computer Crime and Security Survey. Informe de l'AusCERT sobre la seguretat informàtica a Austràlia.
About 1 in 5 respondents experienced electronic attacks that harmed the confidentiality, integrity or availability of network data or systems in the last 12 months.
Consistent with previous years’ trends, most of these attacks were again sourced externally (83%) compared to internally (only 29%).
Infections from viruses and worms were the most common form of electronic attack reported by respondents with 45% of respondents experiencing this type of infection.
Total average annual losses for electronic attack, computer crime, and computer access misuse or abuse increased by 63% to $241,150 per organisation compared to 2005.
About 1 in 5 reported trojan or rootkit infections, which is considered to be high given that such malware cannot self-propagate.
Across most categories, there was a reduction in the reported use of security technologies, security policies and procedures, IT security standards and IT qualifications and training compared to 2004 and 2005.
In summary, 2006 is characterised by lower levels of attack and for most survey respondents fewer financial losses. But on the down side, lower levels of protective security measures (technical and non-technical) are being implemented, and there are still relatively high levels of dissatisfaction about organisations’ readiness to protect their information systems.
