Via Book Patrol: A Haven for Book Lovers arribo a la notícia de CNN Money on s'anuncia la propera disponibilitat d'una màquina pensada per a la distribució de llibres: Espresso té l'aspecte d'un caixer automàtic però especialitzat en la venda de llibres.
Quina és la seva característica més destacada: que el llibre es genera dins de la màquina
This soon to be released technology could easily put most of the remaining bookshops to rest in the next 10 years.
The facts:
- the Espresso can produce 2 books every 7 minutes
- Books are glued in full laminated covers.
- Books printed in any language
- Books can be upward of 500 pages
Some 2.5 million books are now available - about one million in English and no longer under copyright protection. On Demand accesses the volumes through Google and the Open Content Alliance, among other sources. Neller predicts that within about five years On Demand Books will be able to reproduce every volume ever printed.
És a dir, el client selecciona el llibre i la màquina en genera una còpia en pocs minuts.
Quins efectes pot tenir això en les llibreries? Evidentment una màquina d'aquesta pot ser útil per vendre best-sellers, però no pas per a llibres que compres després de mirar-los i fullejar-los a la llibreria.

A partir d'ara (de fet, de la versió 7), Fedora només serà Fedora i ja no hi haurà Core...

No se fins a quin punt hi té a veure la pèrdua d'usuaris que sembla tenir Fedora en els últims mesos. Pràcticament tots els coneguts que feien servir Fedora s'han (ens hem) passat a CentOS als servidors i les estacions de treballa han passat a Ubuntu.

[IT Observer] Voice over IP under threat. Article que fa un repàs a la situació de seguretat de VoIP. El perill no és tant allò que coneixem en altres plataformes, com les noves possibilitats que VoIP permet:
The problem lies in using the full characteristics of VoIP in order to spread malicious code. Imagine a dataflow across an audio channel (perhaps at a frequency that is not audible to humans) that could crash the voice system, causing a denial of service. Or that this dataflow could be used to create a system status that would allow execution of malicious code. This would be something genuinely new with respect to propagation of code, unlike other hundreds of codes that use messaging systems simply to propagate. But this is nothing more than speculation.
