 Samizdat és un directori de llistes de correu en català, classificades en cinc àrees temàtiques (cultura, lletres i ciències, tecnologia, societat i temàtica general, a més d'un àrea especial d'enllaços relacionats amb les llistes). De cada llista hi ha una petita descripció, amb una indicació de la quantitat de missatges que circulen.

[SecurityFocus] Online crime up in 2003
It seems 2003 was a productive year for phishers, online auction scammers and Nigerians professing a deep sense of purpose and utmost sincerity, judging from the latest stats from the Internet Fraud Complaint Center.
The center reports receiving over 120,000 online fraud complaints through its website this year -- an increase of 60% over the 75,000 complaints counted in 2002.

[Linux Gazettte] Network Monitoring with Ethereal
We all hope that our networks just do what they are supposed to but that often is not the case. Two systems that should talk to each other, don't; a network becomes saturated with traffic for no apparent reason; you need to know what some non-Linux device is doing. Ethereal may be the tool that saves the day.

Starting up ethereal quickly identified the problem. There were a whole bunch of computers running some other operating system that liked to send broadcast packets over the network for such exciting events as a computer being turned on or the paper being low in a printer.

Once I had the problem identified, it was easy to correct. I just moved the radio traffic to another subnet away from the chatty operating system and performance was fine.

Fa uns pocs dies parlava de Nagios, un sistema de codi obert per a la monitorització de sistemes. Avui he trobat un altre, Sysmon, que sembla ser més adequat per a la monitorització de xarxes de mida petita. Sysmon monitoritza la disponibilitat dels sistemes, utilitzant diversos sistemes (per exemple, consultant la disponibilitat a través de protocols d'aplicacions com SMTP, IMAP, HTTP, TCP, UDP, NNTP; identificació de l'estat amb missatges ICMP, PING; o bé consultant l'estat via SNMP). Sysmon és una eina d'alt rendiment i ràpida implementació i ofereix moltes més prestacions que d'altres productes, fins i tot comercials com Whatsup.

Avui m'ha donat per provar la versió 0.8 del Mozilla Firebird. M'ha fet gràcia que al nou instal·lador per a Windows, tant si acceptes la llicència com si no l'acceptes, el programa s'instal·la.
Actualització: bé, al nightly build d'avui aquest problema està solucionat. Ara si no acceptes la llicència, no s'instal·la. :-)

Estic analitzant diverses eines de weblog... entre les que he vist, sembla que l'elecció ha d'estar entre alguna d'aquestes:
Ara per ara, el que em sembla més interessant és Serendipity, però Movable Type és també força interessant i té a favor seu la gran intel·ligència col·lectiva disponible a la xarxa. Wordpress està ja pràcticament descartat.
